How Does Crypto Payment Work for the CoinGecko API?

Crypto payments are available as a convenient self-serve option for eligible CoinGecko API subscriptions. Because cryptocurrency transactions work differently from standard credit card billing, there are specific eligibility requirements and system limitations to keep in mind.

Eligibility & How to Pay

To unlock the crypto payment option at checkout, your subscription must meet the following criteria:

• Plan Level: You must be subscribing to an Analyst plan or higher.
• Billing Cycle: You must select an Annual subscription.

If your order meets these requirements, simply select the cryptocurrency option as your payment method directly on the checkout page to complete your purchase.

Important Limitations

Due to the manual, non-recurring nature of crypto transactions, certain standard billing features are not supported. Please review the following limitations before selecting this payment method:

Promo and Discount Codes

Discount codes cannot be applied to crypto payments. If you wish to redeem a discount code, please choose the standard credit/debit card payment method to complete your checkout via Stripe.

Renewals and Cancellations

Manual Renewals

Crypto payments do not automatically renew. To help you maintain continuous API access, we will send you email reminders 14 days and 7 days before your current subscription expires. You must manually complete your next payment before the expiry date to avoid any service interruptions.

Cancellations & Plan Changes

You are free to cancel your subscription at any time. However, because mid-cycle plan upgrades and downgrades are not supported under crypto billing, you will need to completely cancel your current plan and initiate a brand new subscription if you wish to change your API tier.
